MONOLOGOS – EARLY AND TRADITIONAL FLUTE MONODIES
Flute monody has been often associated with a meditative and intimate state of soul often connected to a pastoral atmosphere. Dance music from the Balkans, hymns and instrumental music from the 11th century up to the 18th is presented together with popular tunes and songs. Vocal music by Machaut, Ciconia and Gherardello and others, performed by a flute alone gives an abstract, non-material, dimension to these captivating works.
Through many diverse kinds of flutes and different musical idioms, from Medieval to Suffi tradition, from Ireland to the Mediterranean, a spectacular world of sounds and timbres is presented.
